An alternative to traditional paving surfaces, permeable pavements enable rainwater runoff to enter an underlying stone reservoir through holes in the pavement surface, where it is either infiltrated or temporarily retained.
Paved surfaces often absorb rainwater and turn it into runoff. Rainwater is captured and slowed down by permeable pavement, which facilitates infiltration and greatly reduces runoff volume and nutrient removal while also lowering the amount of impervious cover on a built site. Pervious grid pavers, permeable interlocking pavers, and porous asphalt or concrete are a few types of permeable pavement surfaces that are available.
All permeable pavement systems have a similar structure, with a surface permeable pavement layer, an underlying stone aggregate reservoir layer, and an installed filter layer or fabric. The particular design may differ. Here are some of the benefits of using permeable pavers:
Decrease the amount of water in storm drains:
During heavy rainstorms, all of the water pours into sewage systems, which may become overloaded. By lowering the volume of water entering storm drains, permeable pavers ease the strain on the sewage system.
Keep pollutants out of streams and rivers:
Litter and hazardous pollutants like chemicals and oil are carried by sewer water when they enter lakes, streams, and reservoirs. By naturally removing contaminants from runoff before it reaches streams, permeable pavers enhance the quality of water discharge.
Assist in meeting impervious surface restrictions:
The amount of impervious surface area that is permitted on your property is limited by municipalities. There are several that charge you for stormwater runoff according to how much of your land is impermeable. You may have a big patio, pool deck, or driveway using permeable pavers, and you can even save money.
Permit you to collect rainfall for personal use:
Underneath your paver project, you may add a rainwater collection system to supply water for various needs, such as inground sprinkler systems.
"Could not be happier with the bocce ball court, horseshoe pits, and custom railing that ATG installed. They were very professional and courteous through the installation process and followed up to make sure we were happy with the work. We will be using ATG again for all our hardscaping needs."
